The Story Behind the Philosophy
How a lifetime of questions became a philosophy of possibility.
When I was six months old, I was adopted into a family that would shape the course of my life in ways I couldn't have understood at the time.
Throughout much of my life, I wrestled with questions of identity, belonging, and a persistent fear of abandonment. Looking back, I can't separate those feelings from the earliest chapters of my story. Whether they began there or were shaped by everything that followed, they became part of the journey that eventually led me to understand belonging in a much deeper way.
For years, I searched for answers without realizing that God was quietly preparing me for something much greater than the questions themselves. Long before I understood His purpose, He was using every chapter of my life to shape my heart, deepen my compassion, and teach me that belonging is not something we earn - it is something we are invited into.
A Foundation of Faith
From fourth through twelfth grade, I attended a church school where faith became part of the rhythm of everyday life. Looking back, I can now see that God was laying a foundation long before I recognized what He was doing.
That foundation eventually led me to Nashville, Tennessee, through church relationships and the influence of a former youth minister, opening doors I never could have imagined.
Lessons Through Adversity
As I entered adulthood, life became far more difficult than I expected. Like many people, I experienced both the consequences of my own decisions and circumstances beyond my control.
I endured domestic abuse within a marriage affected by alcoholism, a season that tested my faith, my resilience, and my understanding of what it truly means to persevere.
Yet even in those darkest years, God never abandoned me. He carried what I could not carry alone and slowly transformed hardship into compassion, resilience, and a deeper dependence upon Him.
Learning Beneath the Surface
My education continued alongside that journey. I earned a degree in Religion, a master's degree in Soil Chemistry, and later pursued doctoral-level studies in Agricultural Commodity Price Risk Analysis.
Although those disciplines appear very different, they all taught me the importance of looking beneath the surface.
Healthy plants begin with healthy soil.
Strong organizations begin with healthy cultures.
Lasting change begins by understanding the environment in which growth is expected to occur.
Those lessons would later become central to the philosophy that now guides my life.
A Different Direction
During my doctoral studies, an unexpected personal tragedy changed the direction of my life and brought me back to Louisiana.
Rather than continuing the path I had planned, I returned to what I knew best—building businesses, leading people, solving problems, and navigating the realities of entrepreneurship.
For decades, business became another classroom where I learned that people flourish when we build around their strengths rather than their limitations.
The Song That Changed Everything
Years later, another defining chapter unfolded through my birth mother. She had chosen not to meet me during her lifetime, and over the years I had learned to live with that unanswered question.
Then one day, God gave me a song...
Thank You Mama for the Dawn You Gave Me.
Compelled to follow that prompting, I reached out to my half-brother and sister-in-law. Only then did I learn that my birth mother had only days to live.
I sent the song, hoping she would hear it while there was still time.
A few days later, while speaking on the telephone to a friend hundreds of miles away, I suddenly stopped and said,
"I feel like my birth mother just died."
Moments later, it was confirmed.
She had passed away while listening to the song, and I unknowingly called only minutes after her passing.
That moment changed me.
When Purpose Became Clear
For as long as I can remember, I sensed that my life was moving toward something I could not yet see. Even as a child, I often felt different. I carried a quiet conviction that I had been placed on this earth for a purpose beyond myself. I simply didn't know what that purpose was—or how all the pieces of my life would one day fit together.
Over the years, every experience added another piece to that picture. Faith, education, business, hardship, unanswered questions, loss, music, Heart Central, and the people who crossed my path all became part of a much larger story. Looking back, I can now see that God wasn't leading me from one unrelated chapter to another. He was patiently building a foundation.
The experience surrounding my birth mother didn't give me purpose. It gave me greater clarity about the purpose I had sensed all along. What I never expected was the scale of that calling. I thought I was preparing for a career. God was preparing me for a philosophy. A way of seeing the world that would eventually connect leadership, business, music, Heart Central, and every conversation I would have with another person.
Today, I understand that my work has never really been about solving problems. It has been about helping people recognize possibilities they may not yet see, and creating environments where those possibilities have room to grow.
The Question That Changed Everything
Transformation begins when we stop looking for what's wrong and start asking what's possible.
I have come to believe that every life carries hidden possibilities waiting to be discovered. Sometimes they emerge through joy. Sometimes they emerge through hardship.
But when we are willing to build differently, to listen carefully, and to walk alongside one another, even our deepest wounds can become sources of wisdom, compassion, hope, and new beginnings.
Today, my work is helping people recognize possibility and build environments where lives, relationships, organizations, and ideas can flourish.
Whether through a conversation, a song, a story, or a shared experience, my hope is always the same—to help someone see a possibility they may not yet see for themselves.
I believe every meaningful possibility begins with being heard.
Every meaningful transformation begins by asking a different question.
